    • Defying Gravity One Probe At A Time (0RBITALIS Review)

      Elyessi RTX Press

0RBITALIS is a beautifully minimalistic gravity simulation game with a touch of elegance and a dash of retro features taking us back to the days of Asteroids. Very much a brain boggling puzzler, it's your job to launch a probe into space to battle against gravity and last as long as you can. So get ready to embrace your zen-master mentality, because this game is ready and waiting for those willing to take on the interstellar challenge.

      Yeah.

You've done it! You've bought your ticket to RTX, and you've already picked up your hotel ticket and are excited to share a room with your (soon to be) besties. Sure, you may be sweating it out, but hey, you aren't going to be spending all day in that room. Hell no, you'll be spending most of the day in the convention center, trying to squeeze your way into the hottest panels or stalking the C&C just so you can take a selfie or maybe get a signature.

All that is left is to get a plane ticket (if you haven't already) and man, are those tickets expensive. I feel you, and the thought of dropping the cash on a two-way ticket is pretty intimidating. I've been doing a lot of thinking, and research, so I wanted to share my findings with you, and see if you had any advice to share in return. So sit down, sit back, and let me know what you think in terms of the best, and worst, advice I may have in terms of the day to buy, to fly, and the sites to pick up your tickets to get to RTX!

      THE DAY TO FLY
Most of my research has shown that the best time to fly out is Tuesday. Other sources claim that Wednesday and Saturday also are great days to fly. Why are these days cheap? Well, mostly because these days are during the week, which is generally a time where people are working, or during the weekend where people want to spend time relaxing on vacation.

In contrast, the worst and most expensive days to travel are Fridays and Sundays where the most people are trying to book tickets, because as you may expect, most people are trying to get out or get home.

Additionally, a good time to fly is of course the red-eye. No one wants to fly at 4AM, so you can expect those tickets to be the cheapest! Of course, you may not want to fly at these times, but you can expect these days and these times to have the best deals! Hopefully you took this into account before you booked your hotels!

      THE DAY TO BUY
This is where it gets tricky. My research has been very conflicting in terms of the best day to purchase a ticket, because airline prices change on a daily basis. Some places claim that the best time to start hunting for tickets is three months before your plan on flying out. Others claim 30 days before departure is the absolute last minute time to be looking for tickets before prices skyrocket. There really isn't a sweet spot, and you are going to take a gamble no matter when you start looking. I guess my advice is to not just go onto a site and buy a ticket the same day.

      smiley9.gif Do research.
      smiley9.gif Do sleep on it.
      smiley9.gif Take your time.
smiley9.gif Understand that prices will change and you may lose out on a deal.

It doesn't hurt to shop around a bit and look for some good pricing. But also if a price does seem too good to be a true, it might just be too good to be true.

Connecting flights can save you some serious cash, but it will add some serious hours to the trip. So it's up to you if you want to shop direct or add the layover.

      FLIGHT SITES
      smiley9.gifGoogle Flights
      smiley9.gifKayak
      smiley9.gifTravelocity
      smiley9.gifOrbitz
      smiley9.gifTrip Advisor

      smiley10.gifDelta Airlines
      smiley10.gifAmerican Airlines
      smiley10.gifUnited Airlines

If you use the logic of the time to start shopping, RTX is about three months away. That means now is the time to start looking into pricing and keeping an eye on the trends. This doesn't mean you need to freak out and buy a flight tomorrow. But it does mean you should keep an eye on how prices are and just see where they go.

Either way, good luck RTX friends! And if you have any flight advice, why not share below! Can't wait to see you in August smiley12.gif

    • Amazing Artist In Need Of Support

Every so often I will take a moment to step out and promote something amazing I've seen on the internet. Today I wanted to share with you the story of the work my friend, Victoria Pimentel, has been doing over the past several years. An art major, Victoria is skilled both in digital and the traditional arts.

      TheAdorableCheshire.png

She has recently studied makeup and prosthetics and was a casting finalist in the hit Sci Fi series, Face Off.

She applied again this year and made the first round of interviews. She should hear back this week to see if she will make the second round. If she does, she will need to raise funds to be able to make a new set of prosthetics for the application, costing at least $250. This includes a mixer, a set of scales, an actual foam oven, and some other odds and ends

If you really enjoy her digital art and want to support her to reach her goal, please take a moment and check out her newly created Patreon! She could use the support, even if it is just a few bucks every few weeks! Any little amount can help her raise the funds she needs to get to her goal for the application!

If you are interested in commissioning her for art you can contact her directly at vlpiment@gmail.com - just let her know that I referred you!

smiley9.gifWe may think that a little money might not make a difference. That a few bucks might not change someone's life. But if we can spare a little change, skip spending money on something we don't need to buy today (like that extra beer or soda we don't need to drink) to help someone accomplish their dream, don't you think that the karma might come back to us in turn? smiley9.gif

It's a big day, and my nerves are starting to build up. Rooster Teeth family, I could really use whatever you could send me!

    • How I Found Rooster Teeth

      Elyessi RTX Press

11 months ago I took the plunge and signed up on the site, mostly because I saw there would be a special sponsor only event of Cards Against Humanity and I couldn't pass that up. Before that day, I had been watching a lot of Achievement Hunter at work to help me pass the time, catching up with Minecraft Let's Plays and laughing along with the Podcast. Rooster Teeth had become a staple in helping me survive the grind that was the 9 to 5, and joining the community felt like a natural transition. I'm sure in a month I will have a bit more of a thought out journal, but for now I wanted to explain more about the beginning moments of how I became a fan, or more the time I was a fan before I even knew who Rooster Teeth even was.

Back in 2010, I was beginning my final year of college and enjoying the last moments I had before I assumed I would be moving on to the real world. This was before I even thought I would be partaking in a Master's Degree program, so I was pretty stressed out and nervous I would be leaving my group of friends. These guys were my life - I spent hours crashing in their dorm room, playing Halo: Reach and Magic the Gathering and feeling (for the first time in my life) comfortable in my skin. I would just walk into their room and sit down, even if they weren't there, and spend my day passing the time. That was what my life would be like.

Reach was a staple when the gang was all there. So when someone brought up this funny web series that involved Halo, I couldn't pass up checking it out. Suddenly, a binge session of Red vs Blue over a long weekend occurred, and I fell in love. My friend called me Tex for how snarky I was, and I called him Caboose whenever he said something stupid, and my ringtone was the Warthog theme song. We would constantly repeat one-liners from the show and re-watch seasons just to watch them. Yet, I didn't even know that Rooster Teeth had a website at the time, or any other shorts. In fact, when I walked away from the guys at the end of the year, I walked away from the show and from that life.

As I slowly discovered who Rooster Teeth was through Let's Play and Red vs Blue, I discovered that the company was so much more than a brand and a series. It is a catalyst that has helped a group of misunderstood people come together and grow into something so much more. Together we have laughed, cried, funded and united into a community that stands tall and strong. I am proud to be a fan and to be part of this community, and I am so happy to have been here for even the shortest amount of time. Thank you everyone at Rooster Teeth for everything you have done to entertain and to give to us as fans, and I can't wait be a part of whatever I can later this year at RTX.

Happy 12 years, and here's to 12 more (and many beyond that!)
