I went to slasher fest this weekend. The scariest off season horror house...sure... I feel bad but I lost my scare because I became hideously underwhelmed by the makeup. It was well done but it was only face paint and masks. After the first 1/4 there was a lack of blood. Needless to say I was a tad sad. Not to say I'm a horror master but from the sounds of it if I made my own haunted house I would give some poor human a heart attack. I guess I have to bend and understand the importance of jump scares vs. scary bloody scares.
However I did another thing! Tried backing off a bit. I'm currently happy...Enough with it. Ask me again in a week and I may hate it. But looksie at the thing!
It's not perfect but it's progress?
Please understand the lack of blood, I only have so many tank tops and such so I can't go hog wild.

I showed this to a pathologist. She's actually quite happy with the wound, coloration and all. Her one comment was that the bruising is too large for the laceration. Blunt-force bruise and a sharp-force injury.
Take it or leave it, but she was impressed by the shading and skin stippling. And dealing with the real thing is literally her job.

Yeah the bruising got way out of control. I feel the same about it so I'm happy that I was technically right to be not happy with it. I'm mostly happy with the scarwax application. It's gotten 100% better since I started. I really appreciate the input though ESPECIALLY from someone in the field.

That's really great work, especially done yourself! I've only ever had wound make-up look that good when someone else applied it (to my face and left hand). (Also, I don't mean I could do it either.)

Haha thanks! I've had lots of practice because I haven't had anybody else to work on before. Now I'm sure I could get my roommates to be victims if I wanted. It's taken me a long time though to get here. I have a photo from a couple months back where I did stab wounds and they didn't look nearly as good as this. I'm mostly just proud that the scarwax blends into my natural skin almost perfectly at first glance. You look hard enough and you'll see the edge where the color gets less intense because it sits on the wax different. I tried like hell to blend it though.

I want to say somewhere from 40 minutes to an hour maybe? I'm trying to not over do it, that's my biggest issue. I'm probably going to time myself next time. If I can get a good time maybe, just maybe I can offer my services for large scale events. I'm considering contacting the local fire department to see if they need help with their crisis training. Fun fact that is actually how some make-up artists make a living.

Are you sure you're not just stabbing yourself or whatever to get this stuff?
