      Grifball!

      US League Important News
Lots of stuff going on tonight in the US league.

First and foremost, I'd like to congratulate <3 on their 3-game win over TMNS in the Pro League championship. I'll be sure to get around to distributing your prizes shortly.

Perhaps more importantly, I bring you information regarding next season. Signups will start on April 1st, 2010 (no foolin') and run for a week, the first 4 days of which will be part of the next Grifball XXP Weekend (you're welcome for the sneak peak ahead of schedule). This means that for the first time in who-the-fuck-knows-when we're going to have something of a sizable off-season! We're yet to decide what we'll do with that, but I'll be starting a thread in the Grifball forum soon looking for ideas and what people think of them. Off the top of my head, we could take a page out of Jack's book and run regular bum rushes (Grif-Blitzes) hosted on Grifball.com, or have a fan site run a tournament or mini-tourney series (ala Halo3Planet back in '08 and early '09).

Also, and perhaps even more importantly, next season will bring about some fairly major changes. The maximum team size will drop back to SIX (from eight), where we were back at the start of the WL08 season (Grifball's first full season). This should force large teams to stop hoarding all the talent, which would result in a few more teams in circulation next season. In recognition of the smaller rosters, teams that lose players mid-way through the season may appeal to me directly (via Rooster Teeth personal message) for the right to replace their missing players in order to field their own team. This will be handled on a case-by-case basis. It is yet to be determined whether or not this change will apply to the Amateur League, but will definitely apply to the Pro League next season. The decision regarding the Amateurs is pending discussion with the Amateur admins.

Last, I'd like to address the new "ideal" format for the Pro League (what with the change of roster size). Come sign up time (April 1st, you may recall), I'll be looking for either 12 or 16 teams of 6 that are of very high quality, are consistently reliable (showing-up wise), and can play THREE consecutive days in any given week, up from the 2 consecutive days required in the past. This change is meant to reduce forfeit-factory Pro teams to zero (there are currently more than 16 reliable Pro teams with an 8 player limit), and to further concentrate the talent of the Pro League, reducing blow-outs and 0-10 (and 10-0) teams. A side effect of this change will be that some of the "nearly-Pro" quality teams that are currently in the Pro League will create a slightly larger and deeper top end of the Amateur League, making playoffs more competitive and less predictable.

That's all for now, folks. Click the comments link below the post to discuss the changes.

      Calling all Couples!

Recently GrifballHub passed its first milestone when their 100th article was posted. To celebrate the occasion they will be hosting a 2v2 grifball tournament this Friday, May 29th at 8:30pm eastern standard time.

The tournament is open to all US players (the points codes purchased will only work for people in the US, so no Canadian Players ethier.... *sad face*), Amateur and Pro players alike and will be single elimination. Lose once and you’re out. There will be a limit of 32 teams. The winning duo will each receive 1600 Microsoft Points. Winners will be either e-mailed a points code or have it sent to them via private message on Rooster Teeth. Their choice. Yes, we’ve already purchased the codes, so there will no waiting forever to receive your prizes. If you don’t already, watch the GrifballHUB topic on Rooster Teeth for announcements regarding sign-ups and brackets. The brackets will be hosted on the Hub.

Please Visit www.grifballhub.com for all info on maps and gametypes.

      Playoff Time!!!

Check out the schedule on grifball.com and make sure you play your games!

MAKE SURE YOU PLAY ROUNDS 1 AND 2 BY FRIDAY!!!!! A pretty bracket for playoffs should be up Tuesday (We had some file issues, it is done, just not accessible). Playoffs are tricky as you have to schedule your matches with the other captain. Make sure to do so as soon as you know who you are playing. The playoff deadlines will not be extended for anyone. Failure to play games by the deadline with result in both teams receiving a loss. (If one team is the obvious problem contact me).

Rounds 1 and 2 of the playoffs are to be played from when the playoff bracket is up (It will be up no later than Wednesday May 20th, 2009) and must be finished by Friday May 29th, 2009.

Rounds 3 (Top 16) and 4 (Elite 8) must be played by Friday June 5th, 2009.

Round 5 (Final 4) must be played by Saturday June 13th, 2009.

Round 6 (Championship best of 3) must be played by Sunday June 21st, 2009.

The deadline will not change at all, make sure to contact the other team to schedule your match. If you are having issues contacting them, please contact one of the Amateur League Admins.

This MIGHT be a bit late, but the Weeks 4-Playoffs highlights from last season are finally here. Sans Menze. Who left me all alone to drive an hour and a half to see the new Terminator movie.

      Unforgiveable.

The real HD version will be up tomorrow, as it's still encoding (clicking HD currently will link you to the same video that the non-HD version does).

This is the best I can do with links.... none of that fancy pants video stuff

Sorry I have been away for a bit and haven't updated somethings. I'm back though so have no fear!
