  • Coming Soon This Weekend - Brisket Attempt #1

    Chelsea RT Community Manager

I have a friend. She's never had brisket.

    This is a Texan atrocity.

So I'm going to try and smoke/cook/grill/[insert correct term here] a brisket.

With my research, I have discovered the following tips:

    - marinate/rub for 12 hours.

    - put brisket on the grill - COLD

    - use something called the "snake method" to ensure long time burning temps

    - cook somewhere in the vicinity of 5-7 hours until temperature is like 195'F

I'm using a charcoal grill. Got any tips for a newbie playing with her meat?

Game of Thrones finale is happening after this next week's OTS so we are making the whole show Game of Thrones themed, starting with prompts. So, with that in mind, give me some ideas to use in our games with some Ice & Fire in them:

    ABCs OF STORYTELLING

Since it's Game of Thrones week let's make prompts for this week all about:

    • You're all time favorite moments from Game of Thrones, any season.
    • Preferably scenes where two people were the main points of interaction

    QUICK THINKING

    • Come up with a category for the guests to list off possible answers for (i.e. Things not to say after someone says "I love you" for the first time.)
    • Category with a lot of possibilities for answers are the best.
    • Make sure it's about something that would live in the Game of Thrones world

    NEW GAME: JUST A QUICKIE

We tested it in the post-show for FIRST members this last week and want to try it out now in the big leagues. All we need is some prompts for a scene. Since we're doing Game of Thrones this week give me ideas for:

    • Your favorite scene that never happened between two characters (fanfic essentially)

My the old gods and the new be ever in your favor. xoxo The Risemonger

Hey guys! Long time no speak!

The Rooster Teeth website has been around for over 13 years. In those years, we've seen different iterations of the site, as well as changes in activity (from both our members and RT staff) and function. Some for the better, some for the worse.

With the growth of other platforms such as Twitter, Instagram, Snapchat, Reddit, etc, we recognize that our community is splintered in different directions. Even I am guilty of not being as active on this site as I used to be or want to be.

This is our home. This is where you should be able to interact with the Rooster Teeth community and staff, and we have been working at figuring out how to get back to that.

This is why I'd like to introduce you to the newest member of the Rooster Teeth family, Dan McComas! (@kickme444

Dan has an incredible history, working on the community site software / product at Reddit & Reddit Gifts, Imzy, and others. He will be working to define and adapt the vision of the community website, and develop it into something we're all proud of. @Chelsea and I will also be working closely with him and you guys to make sure we keep you in the loop, and hear your wants and concerns.

We are very excited to have him on board. He'll be checking the comments of this post, so give him a proper RT community welcome! barbara

Once again we gather at the alter of On The Spot and ask for sacrifices of goofs and gags to be used in this week's episode. Who shall offer up their gift to gods of fart jokes and prat falls this week?

    CUNNING LINGUISTICS

    • Go to urbandictionary.com and find a word or phrase for guests to guess a definition for.
    • Pro tip: try and find words/phrases that are not just weird sex position descriptions.

    ASS SWIPE

    • We need suggestions for personality traits of the worst date ever.
    • Submit 1 trait or a even a set of 2 that play off of each other.
    • Feel free to get weird with this one, you've seen how the game goes ;)
    • Also, we need people to write these profiles for so let me know in the comments if you want some love-life help.

COME AGAIN? You give me a prompt for a scene and I make them act it out. This week I'm looking for prompts involving:

    • Things you hate to admit that you have to do for your job.
    • Memorable things from Summer vacation trips.
    • Things kindergarteners argue about with each other.

May the goofs be with you. xoxo The Risemonger

  • Long-Awaited Android App Update

    mikequinn VP Engineering

Today is a good day for Android users, because we just released a long-awaited update for the Rooster Teeth app on Google Play! Beyond the usual performance improvements and bug fixes, this update finally adds support for additional channels in the Rooster Teeth family, including Cow Chop and Game Attack.

If you already have the app, you just need to install the latest update. If you don’t have it yet, now’s the perfect time to change that. You can get it here.

As always, leave a comment if you have any suggestions for ways we can continue to improve the app.

Update: The Android release 1.2.3 has a bug where watching a live video crashes the app.  We're fixing now, so thanks for your patience!  We should have a fix in the next 24 hours. (http://roosterteeth.com/post/51321138).

Update 2: We have a patch for the following:

    * Layout issues on search

    * Layout issues on seasons

    * Crashes on search

    * Still need to validate Live episode crashes

    Update 3:

    * We're pushing a build up that updates the crashes and layout problems in Update 2.  The "only showing 20 episodes" we'll not have a chance to fix in this release.

    Update 4:

    * Started a rollout to 50% of users.  Will check for crashes, then continue the rollout.  Thanks again for your patience!

  • New FIRST Merch!

    Jon The Risemonger

When I’m not spending my time being the best driver ever in PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds, I spend my days surrounded by a team of pretty awesome designers. I tweeted out recently about a big brainstorming session we were having about merch. While we were brainstorming designs, we realized that it’s been too long since we released any new FIRST-exclusive merchandise. Good news, though. We’re the ones who can change that. So we did.

Starting today, FIRST members have access to not one, but TWO new FIRST-exclusive shirts in the RT Store. Check ‘em out!

    kOKxEPV.jpg

There is a right way and a wrong way to let people know that you’re number one. Here is the right way. Enjoy.

    EkOmmgR.jpg

So Tony, our Lead Product Designer, for some reason always thought grapes were just green and got confused as to why all our grape stuff was purple. Putting our concerns over Tony’s naiveté aside, we wanted to pay tribute to the green underdog of the grape world, so we let him design this FIRST-exclusive variant of the infamous People Like Grapes shirt.

Moving forward, we are committed to releasing FIRST-exclusive merch on a more regular basis. And by “merch” I mean more than just shirts – we’re looking into apparel and products. If there are any designs or items you’d like to see, leave a comment and let us know!

P.S. You should follow the RT Store on Twitter. Or not. Your call. xoxo

  • Officially Announcing Blood Fest!

    matt

At RTX Austin last month, I announced that Rooster Teeth will be making a horror-comedy movie called Blood Fest. That was all I could say about it at that time, but I’m back to give you more details. Get ready, because cameras are ready to roll.

At Rooster Teeth, we’ve always prided ourselves on taking chances to support uniquely talented artists, and we’re excited to continue that tradition as we develop more films for our community and new audiences. Blood Fest is written and directed by a great guy named Owen Egerton. His screenplays have been on the industry-famous Black List two times, and he wrote and directed the films Follow and The Axe Murders of Villisca. We’re really excited to be working with him.

You already know that Blood Fest is a horror comedy, but we can finally elaborate on that. Here’s the official description:

Fans flock to a festival celebrating the most iconic horror movies, only to discover that the charismatic showman behind the event has a diabolical agenda. As attendees start dying off, three teenagers with more horror-film wits than real-world knowledge must band together and battle through every madman, monstrosity, and terrifying scenario if they have any hope of surviving.

    Spooooo0oo0ooky.

Blood Fest stars Jacob Batalon (Spider-Man: Homecoming), Robbie Kay (Heroes: Reborn), some random person named Barbara Dunkelman (RWBY), a scoundrel named Nick Rutherford (Crunch Time), and Tate Donovan (The Man in the High Castle). You’ll also see some familiar Rooster Teeth faces when you least expect them.

It’ll be released on Rooster Teeth FIRST at some point in the future. We can’t wait to share it with you.

This week we will be streaming the "Drag" episode but because of schedules we still need to record our episode we were going to record this week. So...that means I need PROMPTS!

    SYNC ABOUT IT

    • Finish the sentence: How to...?
    • Feel free to submit more than one idea.

    GIVING HEADLINES

    • Find an odd story from the recent news with an equally odd headline that we can remove a word or two from for the the guests to fill in the blank.
    • Look for headlines where a blank space would leave the story open to a lot of different interpretations. Ambiguity is key.

    HOLD MY CONTEMPT

    • I need a simple feud people would fight over in a courtroom.
    • Specifically disputes between 2 individuals where one has wronged the other in some way.

As always, couldn't do the show without you guys. Thanks. xoxo The Risemonger

This week's episode of On The Spot will be delayed. Due to today's announcement from President Trump regarding the transgender community, we feel this isn't the right time to air it. While the show celebrates the incredible visual and humorous talent of drag performers, we wanted to be sensitive to today's news.  We believe you'll enjoy the episode when it airs next week, but today is not the day for it. Thank you for understanding.

  • Tuesday Night Game Fight - We've Heard You

    Podrick

I wanted to take a moment to say thank you to everyone for their comments, critiques and suggestions for Tuesday Night Game Fight.  A live production and a new show is always a risk but it is a risk my team and I love. This year my goal has been to bring our awesome community into more of our productions.  The live audience for On The Spot was the beginning of that goal.  And Tuesday Night Game Fight would go one step further by giving you the chance to actually participate in some of the fun we create every day.

The challenge was how to build a show that would give you that shot and still be a commitment that our talented groups could handle.  We thought we had found a formula that worked but obviously we had some work to do.

The broadcast team got back to work the minute the first episode wrapped.  We have made some adjustments to the show and have tightened up our tech.  We’re ready to roll live again on Tuesday and I hope you give us another shot.  Thanks for every minute you watch and each laugh you share with us.

  • Seven Years Later...

    Jordan Campe Diem

It's hard to believe, but seven years ago today, the first ever RTAA (then called "Drunk Tank Animated Adventures") was posted on my YouTube channel. At the time, I was just hoping I could learn animation and maybe gather a following for my own projects down the road. I had no idea that video was going to catapult me into a career at Rooster Teeth, and the years that have followed have been the best, busiest, craziest years of my life.

But now, seven years and 287 episodes later, it's time for the next generation of up-and-coming animators here at RT to take over. We announced this at the RTAA panel at RTX, but in case you missed it, I'm handing directorial duties on RTAA over to two of our 2D animators, Jordan Battle and Andrew Lhotsky. These guys are some of our best animators, and you've seen their work in Camp Camp, Sex Swing, and previous RTAAs (Battle even worked on X-Ray & Vav). Now the job falls to them to identify stories, edit audio, and come up with and animate the jokes and goofs you see every week in RTAA. Trust me when I say there are no two people at Rooster Teeth better equipped to handle this.

I'm writing this now because this week's episode, Mugged Miles, is the last episode of RTAA directed by me. I didn't want to make a fuss about it, but when I saw it was coming out on RTAA's anniversary, I couldn't help but take a minute to acknowledge the neat and tidy circle we'd managed to make there.

Rest assured this move is for the best. As other duties have taken priority (writing, directing Camp Camp and future projects we haven't even mentioned yet), RTAA was forced to play second fiddle for me. So don't get it confused: this will make the show better. RTAA was not always getting the attention and focus it deserved, but now it definitely will. And honestly, it will probably be even better, because Andrew and Jordan are a lot funnier than me and a lot better at animating.

Ever since the 2D animation department was just me messing around in Flash every day, I dreamed of working on big projects and having a badass team working on badass projects all around me, and this is just the next phase of that vision. I'm very excited to see what new things Jordan and Andrew bring to the show, and I'm very happy with how they accepted the opportunity to take RTAA to the next level.

Not much else to say other than thank you for all the years of support. Without anyone watching it, RTAA never would have been a success, and I would probably not have ever gotten a job. It's been a wild ride, but to be honest, this is only the beginning. Stay tuned.

  • A Look Back

    XXJones21

It's kind of shocking that I haven't ever done a journal post here before in almost 10 years! I want to just give a glance at the past year since a lot has happened since then. Today is my 25th birthday and it's just mind blowing to see where I am now, what I do, and how I continue to move forward.

A year ago, I was turning 24. I was very unsure of what I wanted to keep doing and how to find the motivation. My girlfriend and I were at the end of our relationship and we started to drift apart. She ended up starting a new strong friendship with someone right around the same time as my birthday and even went to a party together one year ago today. I believe they ended up dating not soon after but we both knew that we were at the end of it. We split apart not soon after, kept in touch since but moved on with our lives on separate paths.

It wasn't a horrible breakup, no shouting, no ill feelings, but, there was still a lot of pain. That was just more pain added to a long history of trauma. Not long after the split, I had lost my job at an IT firm. So here I am. I just turned 24 and I have no job, no family nearby, no partner in crime anymore. I was just alone and hurt.

In December 2015, I was able to do some work with RT animation and It was a dream come true. I knew I needed to go back. I took the period of off time and poured it into all my art and all my work. I had to build a mini render farm with 3 machines in order to handle the workflow. I had hit a low point in life and didn’t have much to lose.

The passing of Chester Bennington very recently has had a profound effect to me. I would listen to Linkin Park growing up in elementary school all the way up to this year with the new album. His story about the horrors he went through growing up and how he put all of that horrible energy into art. You can hear it in the lyrics and see it in the performances. It helped me understand that pain and negativity does not have to be a force of only negativity. I understood that I could use this emotion to fuel my creativity.

It paid off in October. I was asked to come back and I immediately put my head down and focused to work on RT Animation. Working on shows that I held dear to me, that I have watched since 2006, was all the motivation I needed in order to push forward. I was brought into a family of fantastic and amazing people. I also had my first RTX this month and to see the RWBY panel and to visibly see the audience react and to see the overwhelming support of the community.

In the course of a year. I went from being in a troubled relationship, unhappy in life, stressed out, to a life where I am excited everyday to come into work. To push what I can do and how I can help our animation team work to their fullest potential buy building new tools and supporting them. Sure there is still a twinge of pain here and there, and I kind of stepped away from dating for awhile and now slowly dipping my toe back in, but I can now hold my head high. I can use these bits of sadness to remind me of the positive things in life and what I can do to make things better.

Thank you again to the Rooster Teeth family, both co-workers and community, for being this amazing force of positivity and for having such a profound effect on my life.

  • I wrote a book, and it's out now!

    Jeremy

Hey guys.  Remember that book I posted about recently?  Well, it's available now to buy on Amazon.

    https://www.amazon.com/dp/1548969087/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1500561419&sr=8-2&keywords=go+nitro

Just so you guys know, I am not a professional author or editor.  Will there be a grammatical mistake every now and again?  Probably.  Will it be the best written thing you've ever read?  No.  However, it's a story I wanted to tell, and this seemed like the best way I could do that.  I priced the book low, because I'm not doing this for money (I get about a dollar for every book sold).  I'm doing this so people can know the characters that I know, and hopefully enjoy the story as much as I do.  Of course, being a part of the industry I am, people are going to leave fake reviews, inflate the star rating, or generally just mess with how the book is perceived by people who don't know me, and that's just the way things are.  If you pick up Go Nitro, I will be extremely grateful.  Keep in mind, if you want to save 15 bucks, I do plan to release it for free later in the year, though I'm not quite sure when.  If it does well, I release 2nd, more refined version later, too.  Thanks everyone and I hope you enjoy it.

    Lumenati Let's Play

When it rains, it pours. Second update of the year! We have a few announcements that are big enough to drag me out of my muddy cave and subject you to my creaky voice.

    THE NEXT GEN 2: REGEN

New Let's Play family members incoming. I'm pleased to say Let's Play continues to be the greatest collection of misfits on the world wide web.

    Criken (and his Carnival) [LINK]

I'm really happy to announce the Crik Master is joining the Let's Play family. I've known and worked with Criken since he was a 16 year old kid burning down the internet with his circus troupe of psychos. I like to think of myself as an early fan and great supporter/enabler of his antics. These days he's a veteran YouTuber and accomplished game designer cooking up his own violent delights for players to enjoy.

Check out our recent Friday the 13th collab to understand what a great addition he is to the family table.

Sugar Pine 7 + Boys Only Club [SP7/BOC]

If you guys attended RTX, this won't be a surprise. We're welcoming the Sugar Pine 7 gang into the Let's Play family.

We're also able to announce that we're working with Reina Scully and Steven Suptic's project, Boys Only Club, as well. A complete set, never removed from box, and in mint condition. Truly, I am an extraordinary collector.

You can check them out every other week on our new broadcast show Tuesday Night Game Fight, alongside 7 other teams including Achievement Hunter, Funhaus, Game Attack, JT Machinima, and more.

    SAYING GOOD BYE

As you may have heard, Jordan and Dan are saying good bye to The Creatures and shutting down the hub channel soon.

This has been a tough year to do business on YouTube. A big part of what we provide to independent creators through Let's Play is access to merchandising, sponsorships, and other income opportunities to help stabilize the shifting fortunes of the YouTube ad market, but the dramatic downturn for many creators in 2017 has been unprecedented. Between these challenges and new personal career opportunities, the decision was made to wind down The Creatures after 6 historic years.

I'm following Jordan and Dan in their next chapters and I hope you will, too.

So that's it for this update. Lots of good news, a bit of sad news. Hope to get back to you soon with even more to announce!

In 2041, Dr. Phillip Redman and Dr. Miles Silva were tasked with creating an alternate fuel source that would break humanity’s dependence on fossil fuels.  The two worked together for almost a decade before stumbling upon a solution.  They constructed a device called the Otrolium Matter Converter.  The Converter worked by pulling the subatomic particles out of objects placed within the machine, and re-configuring them into a new element, called Otrolium.  Otrolium is a glowing green liquid that must always be kept confined within glass tubes.  This is because of Otrolium’s reactive nature when it comes into contact with oxygen.  The catastrophic force caused by the reaction is what made it such a viable fuel source.  However, before formally submitting the Otrolium as a solution to the fuel crisis, Redman noticed some irregularities in his readings.  Otrolium was giving off incredibly high amounts of an unidentified radiation.  The effects of this radiation were completely unknown, and could spread if Otrolium was put into commercial production.  Fearing the worst, Redman had the entire project halted until further research could be done.  Silva disagreed with this assessment and fought to push the Otrolium forward.  After several disputes, Silva was officially removed from the Otrolium project.  Infuriated by this, Silva led an assault on Redman’s lab, where he and his team escaped with nearly every tank of the substance.  Unable to hide such a massive quantity of the chemical, Silva hid the tanks in warehouses and labs all around Lattice Light City.  A gang, calling themselves The Blades, eventually caught wind of this, and began raiding locations around the city in an attempt to find and sell the Otrolium.  Their ability to do this efficiently is what allowed them to become such a powerful militaristic force.  Otrolium has since been used as the reactive agent in bombs, and has also been modified to power weapons.  One example would be the gauntlets worn by the high ranking Blade member, Stunner, which can convert and focus the Otrolium into a tangible, stinging light.  However, Otrolium’s most notable use is the binding agent within the Nitro Enhancers.  Project Nitro relies on Otrolium to connect the enhancers to the subjects’ DNA.  It is a slow process, which is why it takes two years for a Nitro enhancer to fully take effect.
